PROJECT OVERVIEW
📖 Research Project for Development (PRD) “Building strategies to prevention and management of Helicobacter pylori infection in Vietnamese children” is a collaboration between Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and the Université Catholique de Louvain (UClouvain) of Belgium, and with participating member units (Children’s Hospital 1, Children’s Hospital 2 and City Children’s Hospital), sponsored by the Academy of Research and Postgraduate Training – ARES, funded by the Belgian government.
🎯 The project has 2 main goals. Firstly, it aims to formulate strategies for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of Helicobacter pylori infections in children, drawing insights from multi-center research conducted within the community and hospitals of Ho Chi Minh City. Secondly, the project endeavors to train a multidisciplinary team comprising lecturers from Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, pediatricians, family doctors, nurses, technicians, and school medical staff. All these pursuits converge with the overarching goal of enhancing the overall health of the population, with a special focus on the Vietnamese workforce.
In pursuit of these objectives, within the framework of the project, two concurrent studies in Ho Chi Minh City. Firstly, a community study targeting primary and secondary school students was conducted, alongside a hospital-based clinical study involving pediatric patients who underwent gastroscopy at Children’s Hospital 1, Children’s Hospital 2, and City Children’s Hospital. The project also facilitated the training of two PhD candidates from Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine and City Children’s Hospital, while offering short-term scholarships in Belgium to lecturers, doctors, and healthcare personnel engaged in the project’s network. Moreover, the project organized on-site training sessions, seminars, and workshops featuring Belgian professors who shared expertise in epidemiology, medical statistics, clinical skills, and Helicobacter pylori culture techniques. These initiatives are designed to enhance knowledge, scientific research capabilities, and clinical proficiency among healthcare practitioners in Ho Chi Minh City, with a particular focus on pediatric care. Additionally, the project aims to foster enduring collaboration between Vietnam and Belgium, strengthen the bonds between universities and hospitals in both nations, and nurture a robust network of scientists. This evolving synergy presents new prospects for Vietnam’s economic and social progress.
